The 2026 Pan-African Informatics Olympiad (PAIO) concluded in Kigali after a week of activities focused on computer science, innovation, and collaboration among young programmers from across Africa.

Hosted by Rwanda, this year's edition brought together participants from 21 countries, providing a platform for students to compete in algorithmic programming, demonstrate problem-solving skills, and engage in knowledge exchange with peers from across the continent.

The Olympiad highlighted the continued growth of competitive programming and STEM education in Africa, with participants, coaches, judges, volunteers, and organizers contributing to the successful delivery of the event.

PAIO 2026 was organized through the collaboration of the Ministry of ICT & Innovation, the Rwanda Olympiad Foundation, the African Olympiad Academy, and a range of partners and sponsors supporting the development of digital skills and innovation among Africa's youth.

The closing ceremony also marked the official handover of the PAIO flag from Rwanda to Kenya, which is set to host the 2027 edition of the Pan-African Informatics Olympiad, continuing the annual platform for advancing competitive programming and regional collaboration in computer science.
